Walk for Wenjack

Our school community participated in the annual Walk for Wenjack to honour Chanie Wenjack on Thursday morning. Through Secret Path Week and the Walk for Wenjack, students have had opportunities to learn about and reflect on Truth and Reconciliation and consider how to build relationships rooted in respect, understanding, and belonging.

Class Photos and Retake Day

Class photos and retakes are scheduled for October 29. Students getting individual photo retakes need to bring their original proof sheet for retakes.

Halloween at RMS

We are looking forward to celebrating Halloween at RMS on October 30. Please ensure costumes allow students to participate safely and comfortably in regular learning activities, including gym class on Friday. Inflatable costumes can be particularly challenging for students to manage at school.

Please keep the following guidelines in mind:

- Costumes should be comfortable and allow students to participate safely in classroom 0activities.

- Masks, toy weapons, sharp accessories, and costumes that could be frightening or disruptive to others are not allowed.

- Please keep costumes inclusive, respectful, and appropriate for a school setting.

Dressing for the Weather

The blast of winter we experienced this morning was a reminder that winter is coming to Calgary quicker than expected! Please ensure students come to school dressed for the cool and snowy weather, including a warm jacket, and appropriate footwear. Students go outside during morning recess and lunch recess so dressing in warm clothes will help keep them comfortable and ready to enjoy their time outside.

Alien In-Line Skating at RMS

School Council is generously funding Alien In-Line Skating again this year! The program will begin in early November! Students will have several in-line skating sessions where they will develop their skating skills.

School Council is hosting a Family In-Line Skate Night on November 5. Several parent volunteers are needed to help make the evening a success. If you are interested in helping during the Family In-Line Skate Night, please email School Council at rmscouncil@hotmail.com.

Attendance and Punctuality

Arriving at school on time helps students feel settled and ready to learn. If your child is absent, please notify the school through the main phone line (403-777-8240) or school email address Rolandmichenerschool@cbe.ab.ca.

School Conferences

School conferences are coming up at the end of November! Conferences provide a valuable opportunity for families and teachers to connect, celebrate student successes, and discuss students’ learning, progress, and next steps. We look forward to connecting with families and continuing to work together to support each student’s growth and success. More information about conference dates and booking appointments will be shared soon.

Healthy Hunger Lunches

Check the Roland Michener School website for upcoming Healthy Hunger lunch dates and details. These are a great opportunity for students to enjoy a special lunch at school! Healthy Hunger lunch dates and ordering instructions are updated in the RMS website. Orders must be placed through Healthy Hunger at least five days before each lunch. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A FUNDRAISER - WE ASK THAT YOU NOT BRING YOUR OWN HOT LUNCHES TO SCHOOL THAT DAY FOR YOUR CHILD AS IT IS VERY DISRUPTIVE TO THE LUNCH HOUR.

Learning at Home

Thank you for supporting your child's learning at home. Talking about the school day, reading together, practicing math facts and encouraging your child to keep trying when learning feels challenging helps build your child’s understandings, skills, and confidence. A few minutes of learning at home can make a significant difference!

School Council

We are always looking for parents/guardians to come to our School Council meetings each month!

This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with other families, share ideas, and help support our school community. School Council meets on the first Thursday of each month, and our next meeting is planned for Thursday, November 5, online.

We are also looking for parents/guardians who are interested in becoming elected members of our School Council! If you would like to get involved in a more official way, please email Megan Ozegovic directly at mcozegovic@cbe.ab.ca for more information on the open positions.
