We are thrilled to welcome everyone back to another exciting school year! Our first few weeks have been filled with energy, enthusiasm, and engagement. We are so proud of the way our students have connected with each other, the RMS staff, and their learning. We are confident this year will be filled with lots of learning and growth for all RMS students.
Terry Fox Run
We are excited to announce that Roland Michener School will be participating in the annual Terry Fox Run on Thursday, September 19th, from 1:30pm to 2:40pm. This special event honors Terry Fox’s legacy and his incredible Marathon of Hope, which continues to inspire people across Canada to raise funds for cancer research.
Parents and guardians are welcome to join us for the run if they are able! It’s a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community and support a great cause.
In preparation for the event, starting Monday, September 9th, classes may be running and tracking their laps during school hours. Please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather and is wearing suitable footwear for running or walking.
Meet the Teacher
Parents and guardians are invited to RMS for Meet the Teacher on the evening of Thursday, September 26th and during the day on Friday, September 27th. Parents and guardians will be able to meet their child's teacher, learn about programming, and find out more about the exciting things that are planned for the year ahead. Parents and guardians are encouraged to share important information about their child with their child’s teacher during the meeting.
Please schedule a 15-minute meeting time with your child’s teacher through your MyCBE account.
Teachers will be available for 15-minute blocks from 4:30pm – 7:30pm on Thursday, September 26th and 9:00am – 1:00pm on Friday, September 27th. Please note that bookings will not be made through the main office or directly through teachers. Bookings will open on Thursday, September 19th at 9:00am and will close at 11:59pm on Wednesday, September 25th.
Adrian Goulet
RMS students and staff are looking forward to welcoming Adrian Goulet to the school on September 17th. Adrian Goulet, Cree name “wâpi mahegun nâpew” (White Wolf Man) and Blackfoot name “choo aup spoom tah dah pii” (Genuine People Helper) is the Director of Mahegun Tails Inc. Adrian will be sharing his cultural talents and knowledge through song, stories, and drumming.
Orange Shirt Day
On September 26th, RMS will join schools and communities across Canada in recognizing Orange Shirt Day. This important day serves as a reminder of our shared commitment to Truth and Reconciliation. We encourage students to wear an orange shirt to school on September 26th. Thank you for your support in making our school a place of learning, respect, and understanding.
Important Online Forms
Parents/Guardians will have received an email last week from CBE with a reminder to complete important online forms for their child. Please ensure these forms are completed, as they are important for the school to communicate with parents/guardians and to provide educational opportunities for students.
Please also check the settings in your MyCBE account regarding what types of communication you receive from the school. Parents/Guardians must opt-in to receive any communication regarding any commercial matters, including ordering photos, field trips, fundraising activities, etc. - more information can be found here: https://www.cbe.ab.ca/news-centre/school-messages/Pages/default.aspx.
