Happy New Year! We hope your winter break was filled with joy, relaxation, and quality time with loved ones. As we enter 2025, we are excited to welcome students back to RMS. The start of a new year is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on our successes since September and set goals for the second part of the school year.

Gymnastics in Gym

Throughout the month of January, students will participate in gymnastics during gym classes. This program helps develop strength, flexibility, and coordination while encouraging students to have fun and try new skills. Students are reminded to come to school Head To Toe -  Ready To Go to ensure their safety on the gymnastics equipment.

Provincial Literacy and Numeracy Universal Screeners

Students in Kindergarten to grade 3 will participate in provincially mandated literacy and numeracy screeners in January. Universal screeners are assessments that measure a learner’s proficiency in different skills. Universal screeners do not replace day-to-day teacher observations and classroom assessments and do not have any impact on formal reporting processes such as report cards. Rather, the results of universal screeners help inform planning for next steps such as targeted interventions or instructional planning and are not used to determine grades.

January Report Cards

At the end of this month, parents/guardians will be able to view their child’s Term 1 report card on PowerSchool. This is an excellent time to celebrate student achievements and set goals for continued learning. As always, communication and collaboration with our RMS families is essential. Please reach out if you have questions or concerns about your child’s progress.

Recovery Alberta Presenting a session on Understanding Anxiety. This session will focus on distinguishing between everyday anxiety, a normal part of life, and clinical anxiety disorders such as Phobias, Social Anxiety and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Parents, caregivers, and schools play a crucial role in recognizing when anxiety goes beyond typical stress and requires further support.
