January has been a busy month at RMS with many important mid-year activities. Kindergarten to Grade 3 provincial assessment screeners are underway, helping to provide valuable insights into student progress. Teachers have been preparing report cards to share with parents/guardians and students. Report cards are intended to provide meaningful information on student learning and highlight students’ strengths and areas for growth. Students have been enjoying gymnastics in physical education, building their strength, coordination, and confidence.                                                                                                            

Report Cards and IPPs

Report cards can be viewed through MyCBE PowerSchool on January 27. IPPs will be sent home this week with students. We encourage parents/guardians to review report cards with their child. If you have any questions or concerns with report cards and/or IPPs, please feel free to reach out to your child's teacher for further support and clarification.

Fee Waiver Support Session

Community Liaisons will be available at RMS on January 28 from 8:00 – 11:30am to help with applying for Central Fee Waivers. Please plan to attend this session if you would benefit from support applying for waivers.

Dress Like a Book or Movie Character Day

Students are encouraged to Dress Like a Book or Movie Character Day on February 4. This will be a fun opportunity for students to celebrate their favorite stories, movies and characters by dressing up like them. Please ensure costumes are school-appropriate and avoid masks, weapons, or props that may disrupt learning or safety.

Winter Walk Day

On February 5, students and staff will bundle up for a community walk on Winter Walk Day. This special day encourages students, staff, and families to prioritize health and well-being by walking together, embracing the fresh air and the joy of being active outdoors.

February is Kindness Month at RMS

Throughout February, students and staff at RMS will engage in learning and special activities that promote kindness within our school community. Along with celebrating Valentine's Day (February 12), we will acknowledge Random Acts of Kindness Day (February 19), and Pink Shirt Day (February 26).

Celebrating Valentine’s Day at RMS

We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day at RMS on February 12. Students will be provided opportunities to learn about kindness, friendship, and inclusivity through stories, discussions, or activities on Valentine’s Day. Many students enjoy bringing Valentine’s cards for their classmates. We ask that students choosing to bring Valentine’s cards, bring a card for everyone in the class. Students may not bring additional toys, treats, or candies to share in addition to Valentine’s cards. Teachers will share more information about Valentine’s day activities closer to February 12.

Alien In-Line Skating

Students will be learning to in-line skate from February 18 – 26. Alien In-Line Skating is a local company dedicated to teaching students to in-line skate through safe and fun skating sessions. Students need to bring a helmet (bike) to wear during the sessions. There will be helmets available for students who do not have access to helmets from home.

On the evening of February 20, families are invited to RMS for a family in-line skating session. More information will be shared closer to the date.
