As we head into the final week of school before winter break, we encourage everyone to find time during the break to relax, recharge, and spend time with loved ones. We look forward to seeing all RMS students back in the new year, ready for more exciting learning opportunities in 2025. Until then, we wish each of you a joyful, peaceful, and safe holiday season.
The first day back to school after winter break is Monday, January 6, 2025.
Mayor’s Food Drive
Thank-you to everyone who donated non-perishable food items to the Mayor’s Food Drive. As a school community, we collected 300 food items.
Lost and Found
As we prepare for the winter break, we remind you that all unclaimed items in the Lost and Found will be donated during the winter break. We encourage you to remind your child to check the Lost and Found for any missing belongings before the last day of school. If parents/guardians would like to check for any lost items, please feel free to visit the Lost and Found tables at the main entrance of the school before December 20th.
Extra-Curricular Clubs at RMS
Students have had a lot of fun in the RMS extra-curricular clubs including basketball club, Indigenous drumming club, leadership club, and Dungeons and Dragons club. Additional clubs will be offered to students in all grades in the new year.
Winter Solstice
December 21 marks the Winter Solstice - a time for reflection, celebration, and intention-setting for the season ahead. The winter solstice, occurring on December 21 in the Northern Hemisphere marks the shortest day and longest night of the year, signalling the start of winter and the return of gradually longer daylight hours.
RMS Playground
Did you know... in the next three years, the Roland Michener School playground will need to be replaced due to wear and tear? Have questions? Want to join the playground committee? Email: rmsplayground@outlook.com
Community Mental Health Supports for Students and Families
For In-Person Support:
The Summit (Owerko Family Walk-In Services) is a really great place - walk in counselling from 10am to 10pm daily - no appointment required. It is an Alberta Health Services (AHS) program and it is free. Parents can go in with concerns about their child, even if the child won't attend with them. It does not have to be for emergencies, just when you are ready to talk about something and address it right away. It is located just down the hill from the North Hill C-Train Station. They can help families make a plan to move forward around challenging situations and facilitate referrals for assessment and treatment within AHS as well. This can be a great place to start.
