Welcome to November! As the days grow shorter and the weather cools, we are excited to embrace new learning opportunities and continue our growth. With Remembrance Day approaching, we will take time in our classes to reflect and honour those who have served our country. Through meaningful discussions and activities, we hope to deepen RMS students' understanding of courage, resilience, and the importance of peace. As part of our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, students will engage in learning about Métis peoples throughout Métis week.
Remembrance Day Assembly
Parents/Guardians are warmly invited to join us for our Remembrance Day Assembly on Thursday, November 7th at 10:40am. We kindly ask all attendees to arrive a few minutes early to the school gym to ensure a prompt start. Out of respect for the occasion, please consider wearing red or a poppy. Thank you for joining us in this important moment of reflection and remembrance.
Extra-Curricular Clubs
We are excited to announce that a variety of extra-curricular clubs will be available for students to join throughout the year. These clubs offer opportunities for students to explore new interests, build skills, and connect with friends outside of regular class time. Information about the clubs will be sent home with students throughout the year prior to the different clubs starting. The Grade 6 Basketball Club is underway and the Grade 4/5/6 Indigenous Drumming Club starts this week. All RMS students are encouraged to join a club this year.
Strength Based Parent Series
RMS parents/guardians are invited to a free parenting series facilitated by CBE School Liaisons. Recovery Alberta is presenting the November 27th session. The focus of this session is on Mental Health Literacy. Join us for a seminar designed to help parents and caregivers build their mental health literacy and better support their youth. Learn how to recognize the difference between normal responses to stress and when it’s time to seek help. The session will also explore how parents and caregivers can foster positive mental health, manage stress, address the impact of screen time, and open conversations that help their youth feel heard and supported. Understanding and using the right language is key to supporting your youth’s mental health. Snacks are provided. Children are welcome to attend, but childcare is not provided. The session is in the school library from 6:30pm – 8:00pm on November 27th.
Weather Preparedness
As the weather starts to cool down, please ensure that your child comes to school dressed warmly. We will continue to have outdoor recess and go outside to learn on the land so it is important that students are prepared for the chilly temperatures.
Digital Citizenship Plan
Roland Michener School’s 2024/2025 Digital Citizenship Plan is now posted on the RMS website for parents/guardians to read. This week, students will be bringing home a copy of RMS’s Admirable Use Policy. This document needs to be reviewed and signed by both the student and their parent/guardian. This document outlines the ways students will utilize digital technology at school as well as the acceptable use of digital technology at school. Please review the Admirable Use Policy with your child, sign it, and return the school by November 15th.
