Happy Holidays to our Roland Michener School Community!
As you may know, December 21 marked the Winter Solstice. Elder Saa'kokoto has shared that this is a significant day in Blackfoot tradition as it represents the start of a new year. It is a time for reflection and to appreciate what has transpired during the past year, the lessons that have been learned, and to set new intentions for the time to come. As we wrap up 2023, it is a good time for considering all that we have to be thankful for, and to look ahead to new adventures in 2024. I have been thankful to join the Roland Michener School community this year and am very appreciative of the staff, students, families and community partners that make this school a great place to learn and teach.
Please note the following:
Hours and Availability: Our school will be closed starting today, Friday, December 22nd at 3:00pm and will re-open on Monday, January 8th at 7:45am. Phone messages and email messages will not be checked during this time. If you have an urgent issue during the winter break, please email me at tdlay@cbe.ab.ca. If the issue is not urgent, we will respond to emails and phone calls during the week of January 8th.
Casino – thank you to our wonderful School Council and all of the parents, grandparents and community friends who gave of their time and efforts to support fundraising for our school. We truly appreciate your commitment to provide funds for school enhancements and opportunities for our students.
School Council Meeting – please consider joining us for one of our monthly meetings on Tuesday, January 9th at 6pm in our school library. This is a great opportunity to connect with other parents, ask questions and have a voice in decisions we make about our school. We would love to see you there (even if you can only attend meetings once in a while!)
Skating – Our students will be skating on the outdoor rink at Big Marlborough Park January 9th to 12th (weather permitting). Thanks to Kidsport for providing the Skate Shack to provide free equipment for borrowing (skates and helmets). Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately as they will be outside for close to an hour during their lessons with Mr. Marshall.
Kindergarten Registration – begins on Monday, January 15th (and continues throughout the year.) If you have a child (or know of a child) who will be attending kindergarten in September 2024, we encourage you to register early. This helps us to staff and plan accordingly! I hope that this break provides time for all of our families to have fun and to rest and relax, and enjoy time with family and friends. We wish you all the best and look forward to seeing you in the new year on Monday, January 8th, 2024!
